Sicangu Fund was founded by a group of leaders from the Rosebud Reservation who came together to promote economic development in our communities by investing in locally owned private businesses. We're modeled after successful community development financial institutions in other Native communities that have resulted in Native Americans being able to obtain resources and skills they need to establish businesses and create new jobs. In 2004 we completed a market survey to assess the needs and interests in small business development. In 2005, we established an independent, nonprofit public charity that can receive tax-deductible contributions. In 2006 we hired staff, created a business directory, and began operating programs.
Sicangu Fund embodies the traditional virtues of the Lakota people-Woksape (Wisdom), Woohitika (Bravery), Wowacintanka (Fortitude) and Wacantognaka (Generosity).
Sicangu Fund expects that most of our loan customers will need to first complete a comprehensive business development class before becoming eligible for loan funds. Check out our programs and services section of this website to learn more about our classes and loan products and policies.
